This is certainly one of the hidden gems of Wheat Ridge and has become our new go-to joint for Mexican. We scored a buy one, get one coupon on the back of a Safeway receipt and decided to give it a try. We were both pleasantly surprised! The food is reasonably priced, the waitstaff is incredibly friendly, and the food was quite delicious. I typically order the same thing at just about any Mexican restaurant, so technically my "compass" may not be as vast as other reviewers'... Regardless, the chile relleno was one of the best I've ever had. The chips and salsa were another benefit; spicy, tasty, delicious. They also subbed out one item for another on a combination plate per my wife and I's request... Another huge plus in my book. Is the decor a little cheesy? Sure. But this was hands-down one of the best Mexican dining experiences we've had in awhile. Check it out!!!

Stopped in for a quick beer with the GF. Only one kid working the front restaurant and the bar which is separate. We had the Chorizo queso dip (can't remember the Spanish name) and it came out burnt - but still edible. The chips and salsa were really good. I know this is a seafood Mexican place and I have been here before with friends and had a great time. Service - a little slow this time. Food - should have been better. Beer - cold and good choices.

We were very pleased with the food. Sure, the server could have been more attentive, however, we never found it hard to get her attention and was very pleasant. And the prices were very reasonable. We will go again when were in Denver.

Had really poor service here. Waitress was very inattentive, never even asked if we wanted a second drink. I have been here several times but will never go back again!

I've been here three times now, and this has become my new favorite place for Mexican food. A warning: Come hungry, because these people are going to send you out the door stuffed to the gills. They don't scrimp on anything. They start you with a generous serving of excellent salsa (complimentary, of course). There's just enough cilantro to give it a nice fresh taste, without overpowering the onions, garlic, and jalapeños. One of the best salsas in town! On our most recent visit, my wife and I ordered the guacamole. Holy cow! I can't say enough about how good this was. You know those places where when you order guacamole you get a little scoop riding on top of a bunch of lettuce to make it look like you're getting more than you really are? Well, this isn't that. We got this enormous black bowl, with what must have been 3 or 4 avocados worth, and it was delicious. They mash the avocados lightly (so you get some nice chunks in there), and then rather than mix the other ingredients in they scatter them on the top of the mashed avocado. Chopped tomatoes, onions, a little grated cheese, and I'm not sure what else. Sliced cucumbers decorating the edges. This is the best guacamole I can remember eating, and that includes my own recipe, my wife's recipe, and all the guacamole I've had at excellent Mexican restaurants in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The burritos are big and inexpensive (all are under $7). I've had both the carne adobada burrito and the carnitas burrito here, and both were delicious. The put a little refried beans in the burrito, and then a very generous portion of the meat of your choice. Cheese on top is 50 cents extra, and they give you a generous helping of that too. (Have you noticed that "generous" is a recurring theme in this review? Like I said, this place doesn't scrimp on anything.) The green chile they smother the burritos in is a thickened gravy style, like you get in many New Mexican restaurants. Not as hot as I like it, but flavorful. I've had their chile rellenos and their tamales on past visits, and I highly recommend both. From the name, I assume their specialty is Jalisco-style cusine, which means good seafood, and there's plenty of seafood on the menu. So far I've just revelled in the New Mexican style dishes; I've got to go back to try some of their seafood!

Thank god this place was open. I was working with a customer and we decided to grab a bite. We were at the convention center. She wants Mexican food. I ask fancy or authentic? "Authentic" she says so off to Taco's Jalisco we go. Except it's Monday and it's closed when we get there. How about Brazilian? And off to Cafe Brazil we go. Closed. Sh%t. I know there's a mexican place next to the Walgreens on 44th and Wadsworth but it's been years since i've been there. Fingers crossed. We pass El Jaliciense on the way and decide to give it a shot. We were both glad we did. Great Ceviche Mixto! The chips were fresh and the sales awesome. She had a chimi which she loved and I had Carnitas which were also good. 2 happy campers! The staff was great and they really had a wide menu. I will return here.

We love this place. The service is always great. The singer on the weekends is great and the food is unique and delicious and fresh. You get a ton of food. My favorite is the fried queso with chorizo sausage. OMG is that good. And the chicken quesadilla plate. My husband always gets the fresh fajitas, sizzling or the carnitas plate. It's our go to place. You won't be disappointmented.

OMG I hate this place! We went in for fathers day, and the place wasn't that full. We sat down, ordered our meals, and waited. We found that the chips were undercook. Like they were just corn tortillas! Anyways, we got our meals and A. They were wrong B. They tasted like a frozen dinner C. If that wasn't bad enough, we still had to leave a tip! So yeah. The service was meh, so for dessert we just headed down to village inn for some pie. Take your business somewhere else!

Decided to try breakfast. Ordered the country skillet. Sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms and country potatoes. Two scrambled eggs on top and green chili on the side. In love with this restaurant

My new favorite Mexican restaurant!! Spicy, hot salsa and warm chips. Fantastic house Margarita. Every dish we tried was great. Live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

This USED to be one of my favorite paces to go. Then they increased the prices and changed the menu. Then they get a new fancy sign? Now the food tastes completely different, And not in a good way. Did you guys change owners ?

This is a regular spot for my family when we're in the mood for seafood Mexican style. They do it very well here. But today I wanted breakfast, specifically Menudo. . .the Mexican Tripe Soup and they do it right. A big bowl of steaming tomato broth, chick peas, all sorts of spices and lots, I mean loads, of tender tripe! Way too much for me to eat in one seating so I always have plenty of left overs for a future breakfast. My family does not share my admiration of the lining of a cow's stomach so I'm often solo here. we've been going here since they opened and it never disappoints; great food, large servings, good prices, and very friendly staff. Give it a shot.

Two words! Camarrones jalesciente! Roughly translated that means bomb ass deliciousness from Mexico! But in some circles it means shrimp stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon! Did I mention it was doused with deliciousness! When you walk in not only does it feel like you chose a legit mexican restaurant but the Spanish channel soccer and soap operas confirm you made a legit mexican choice! They specialize in seafood and like I said shrimp stuffed with cheese wrapped with bacon! Nuff said

Sadly last night will be the last time that my husband and I will ever be at El Jalisciense again. It was one of our favorite places and we were there at least once every 2 weeks for the past 3 years. Not to mention we have brought this place a lot of customers over the past 6 years. There is something really shady going on there and I work too hard for my money to deal with the games. This is fair warning that if you pay with a card pay attention to your bank balance as they decided that it would be OK to charge us twice. One time for 30.91 and another for 92.26. I tried contacting them by phone 4 times in a 30 minute period and each time I was hung up on without them even speaking when answering. So, we drove to the restaurant to speak with them directly. I asked for the manager and the waitress that waited on us last night went to go get "him". We waited 15 minutes patiently as they were busy. When I asked another waitress to speak with the manager she told me that the manager was not in tonight and that I was to speak with the other waitress as she has no clue what happened and that she was not going to get involved. Great customer service!! Then I asked why was I told by the 1st waitress that the manager was coming if he is not here. She then stated that the owner was in but was too busy to stop doing what he was currently doing to speak with us. By now I am starting to get annoyed and my voice is starting to show how angry I am getting. All waitress' show up to see what is going on at the counter while trying to look at the paper I am holding. (Print out of my husbands bank account showing the double billed amounts) The 1st waitress shows back at the counter with her purse and a 100.00 bill to give us our money back. Here comes the interesting part, she then proceeds to tell us that she knew she double charged us and had attitude while telling us this!! If you knew you did it why did you not reverse it back out? Do you actually think that people will not notice a 92.00 charge from a restaurant when there was only two of us and we did not order alcohol?! The whole time she actually never apologized and had an attitude with us. Unbelievable!!

Worst service we could have ever had. Our first sign should have been the old tasting hips and the fact that it took almost 20 min. Just to get our drinks! Sad to say another d favorite place gone down hill. Safe to say we will not be back.

Usually I'm very leery about trying the new Mexican restaurants so we came in it smelled delicious. I knew I was in good hands I got a smothered bean burrito and we got a chile relleno smothered burrito which was very delicious great salsa as well

I went in to get a breakfast burrito from them for the 1st time so I had no idea what kind they served. They had no menu so I just ordered a half and half egg and potato burrito with cheese. The cashier looked at me like I am an idiot and gave me attitude for not knowing. On top of that I had to wait 30 minutes! The burrito itself was okay. Bubba Chinos is near this restaurant and they have way better service, food, and timing. Go over there.

Anticipating the mother day holiday, my wife made reservations because that is where my mother wanted to go. When we arrived and checked in the hostess had a surprised look on her face and had to ask another help her. It was as if they had forgot about writing it down. They said that would just put us in a spot near their smaller bar. After being seated we waited 30 min. before I went to the hostess and asked if we were going to get service. She said that a young man would be right with us. They had a bus person bring us chips and salsa. The young man never came to or table. A different person came to take or order. The margarita was awful, but was dealt with because of the original wait. Waited another 40 min. before asking for a manager. We were told that there was no manger or owner was on duty. However, our food suddenly arrived. The did was less than great. During that time out drinks were not refilled. At the end we were charged full price and the excuse was, sorry but we are really busy. We will not be back.overpriced anyway

We came here for lunch. 2 adults and 1 child. We were seated right away. Our waiter came out with in 5 seconds. Got drinks ordered appetizer. Ordered lunch and also came out promtly. Our waiter came to check up on us a couple of times made him bring something back every time. Sorry!! Place was pretty busy. Good was really good. Overall, we'll be back! Good place to eat and live music! That was delightful...you know something different. Although service could be a little better. But we did get a free margarita for checking in here.

Horrible service. Our waitress didn't check on us once during dinner. She even sat down to eat her own dinner after we asked for more tortillas.

We've been here a few times. Their breakfast burritos are really good and pretty good size. They did increase the price recently but still worth it. Service is always quick and decent. The price is worth the food. I've also had their Vulcan for breakfast. It's a crispy shell with chopped veggies, potatoes, green chili and sausage and ham topped with two eggs. It's huge and only $9. For lunch/dinner I've had the aguascaliente burrito. Again very good and a good size for around $9. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants.

Way bad! It smelled terrible in the restaurant, my booth seat was dirty when we were seated, the menu was dirty...ugh! We found the house margaritas to be undrinkable (which we were comp'd for, thankfully). We asked our waitress for guidance in whether to order fajitas for one or two after explaining that the two of us don't eat very much and she recommended ordering for two...there was easily enough food for four people. We had the shrimp and fish fajitas and found the tilapia to taste awful. The waitress never checked back with us to see how everything was and we had to ask for more water which did come, eventually. We both liked the salsa that came with the chips, but that's about it. Everything looked dirty from the ceiling tiles to the floor. We couldn't wait to get out of there to get some fresh air. Will never return and wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anybody!

If you are looking for authentic Mexican Food, look no further. From the second your taste buds touch the chips/salsa, you'll be addicted to this restaurants flavors and spices for life. Try the Carnitas Mulcajete, it is a huge serving of Latin paradise. If you love spice, this is your place. The only reason I considered giving this restaurant a 4* review instead was due to some extra cleaning needed, but the food helped me ignore it and give a 5*.

Definitely reminded me of some of the cantinas I am used to in Northern California. 1 star off for the refried beans being burned/overcooked. Had three cheese enchiladas and loved them! Will be back with friends to share in the awesomeness that is El Jalisciense. Oh and the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly.

I have been there several times and have always had a great experience along with great food , they are also very honest I ate there with my family on mothers day and forgot a mothers day card on the table with giftcards when we left, I remembered about it 8 hours later and went back to the restaurant and they had saved it for me. Great Service I give them 5 Stars

Great TexMex (cheese enchilada, crispy chili relleno & bean tostada with rice & beans) Not Cheap...my plate was $12.00! Should have had great....if not just OK service....but it was horrible service. No napkins....no silverware....guacamole delivered with no chips....chips were cold. There are better places out there.

This is a ok place :) The young girl who waited on me was very friendly. I just ordered a beef taco and a chili relleno it was good. The chips and salsa was yummy. They have lots of seafood on the menu and a very nice patio :)

Horrible service, never got to eat. As soon as the waitress showed up, we were in trouble. I asked what beers they had on tap and all I received was a blank stare. After a few minutes, the other waitress came over and told me they only had bottled beer. This was strange because they have a huge bar. When I asked what beer they had, she had no clue. After 15 minutes of waiting to place the food order, I made another mistake asking if the chili rellenos were pan fried or deep fried. I was rewarded with another blank stare from the original waitress. She wondered off and we were ignored for another 10 minutes. After waiting a total of 30 minutes, we got up and left. When I told the cashier about this and her reply was they were very busy. I looked around and only 5 tables had customers. She acted as she did not care and we were an inconvenience. I guess I should not have asked any questions about their menu or beers. I was charged $7.00 for one bottle of beer and a glass of lemonade. After the horrible service we had just received, I expected to have not been charged in hopes of us trying them again. I have no idea what the food tastes like but only having 5 tables full at 7:00pm tells me it's as lousy as the service. It's a shame, a few years ago this was a great restraint. Drive north for a few more minutes to El Tapatio. This restaurant knows what they are doing. They have excellent food and a wait staff that actually know the huge menu and do not ignore you.

This is one of my fav places to take gringos to. They can still order their combo plates, with the boring american-ized versions of Mex and with the big margarita that they are so used to having and I can get a pretty decent bowl of menudo, or a whole fried fish, or just a massive pile of carnitas when I'm in the mood. Is the food great? No. Is the wait staff good? Yeah, I think so. What about the value? Okay, here's where I have an issue and hence the lopping off of a star. This place ain't cheap. Actually, it's pretty pricey so I guess the search will soon be on for a new place to take my gringo eaters wanting Mex food to. side note: glass between the booths? fake vines? Haven't stayed at a Days Inn or eaten recently at a pancake house but Jaliciense doesn't have either of those things. Mmmm bro, too many margaritas maybe? : ) side note 2: they have a mean mariachi band in there on friday nights. By "mean" I mean "not so nice", not "really good".... (catorce')

  • Ken K.

El Jaliciense is furnished something like what a pancake house attached to a Days Inn might be: fake plastic vines attached to ceiling tiles with paperclips, glass dividers between booths, and random knicknacks possibly bought over the years across Wadsworth at Big Lots. So far, so good. I went with an iced tea and my standard chili relleno plate. Complimentary chips and salsa promptly appeared in front me and were also the highlight of my lunch: they were really very good. My chili relleno plate came incredibly quickly: microwaves and deep fryers, after all, heat food very quickly. Unfortunately, the wrong kind of cheese was used in my relleno and when I pushed my fork through, it burst open with oil from the melted cheese. The oil floated at the surface of the tasteless green chili my plate was smothered in, even making its way on to the caked pinto beans and sticky "mexican rice". I soldiered through most of my chili rellenos themselves, trying to find some evidence, any evidence, of the peppers they were made with. Mostly I found breading, oil, and melted mediocre cheese. Blah.

This place is in walking distance from my house. Because of the mediocre Yelp reviews, I have always skipped it. Tonight, though, I figured it was about time to at least try it after having unimpressive Mexican food elsewhere in the hood. I normally see at least 6-7 cars in the parking lot, but on this Sunday night at 7 it was absolutely empty when I went in to order takeout. The ambiance was fine (aside from the fact that it was empty), and while I perused the menu to order my takeout meal I was given chips, salsa and water - which was pretty nice considering I wasn't dining in. The salsa is really good and quite spicy. The menu is expansive, with all your traditional Mexican favorites as well as Tex-Mex items. I ordered a shredded beef burrito and an order of carnitas tacos. Everything - refried beans, rice, green chili, flour tortillas, carnitas, etc -. was excellent. Seriously, I've been to many, many Mexican restaurants in North Denver and this was among my favorites. Guac was a little salty, but it was still good. I'm honestly surprised by the reviews here and the fact that no one was in the parking lot on a Sunday night. But then again, this is Wheat Ridge and all the other restaurants are normally empty on Sunday nights.

Hottest salsa I've ever encountered. Maybe the hottest anything I've ever encountered. I polished off a 32 ounce glass of water after one bite. And I eat spicy stuff. A warning from the server about that would have been nice. I was just reminded of that one bite this morning ;/ Ground beef is identical to what you'll find at Taco Bell. Something on the burrito plate made it really spicy. I think it was the green chile. I took the rest home and calmed it with a fresh tomato - then it was pretty good. Service was great, but most of the stuff that hit my table was way too hot - with no warning. The rest of the food was okay. I wouldn't send anybody here unless they just asked me where to find really hot food...then it's worth a shot. High point - the weather was really awesome on the patio.

Just got back from an El Jaliciense dinner. Because it's location is near to more heavily Latina/o neighborhoods I had hoped for something a little less Tex/Mex. The food was good, but nothing to write to your madre about. I often judge a Mexican place on their salsa, and EJ passed that test- it was quite good. Most everything that was ordered by those around the table came out piled high with shredded lettuce and yellow cheese (I should say that I have nothing against yellow cheese in itself, but it does tell you something about what 'kind' of Mexican restaurant we are talking about). All of the food was in the 'good but not great' category: probably no better or worse than a number of generic Mexican places around town. Our server was kind and helpful, although not overly attentive. With all of the really good Mexican places around the neighbourhood (all up and down Federal and some on Sheridan as well), EJ will probably not be a part of my regular rotation. Even so, for a sub-$10 dinner, you could do a lot worse.

Ok, 3 stars for what well........4 stars for quality of food, 3 stars for service, and 1 stars for the thieves that work there. Long story on the theft, but I'm here to review the food. The food is good, has the same consistency in flavor each time I've gone there and is quite a bit of food for the cost. The service is mediocre at best. Too many people running around and no one bothers to ask how you're doing.....humph. Not the best Mex food I've tasted and I am not sure why I've given this place a few chances.....Not any more after the last incident. On to the next.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
